BibleGateway

BibleGateway is an online Bible and Bible app with more than 200 versions and 70 languages that you can read (for free) on your computer, tablet, smartphone, or iPhone.  BibleGateway provides an accessible library of audio Bibles, a mobile app, devotionals, email newsletters, and other free resources at the tip of your fingers.

BibleGateway’s slogan is “The Word for All the World.” Indeed, they are doing just this.  It has been BibleGateway’s intention from it’s beginnings in 1993 to provide a convenient and easy way to access the Bible around the world.

Barely a day goes by where Bob and I don’t go to biblegateway.com or use the BibleGateway app.  It is, for us, a handy and beneficial tool wherever we go, whether it’s visiting someone at the hospital, waiting for an appointment, or outside sniffing along the trail.

John 3:16-18 (Common English Bible)

When it comes to online Bibles and Bible apps for mobile devices, it’s all about functionality and ability to quickly access information you want.  With “Bob’s 5 Bark Bible App Review System” we assess for you BibleGateway’s ease of use for you and your needs.

1. Access

Accessibility is a hallmark of BibleGateway.  The website and mobile app have multiple versions of the Bible in several languages.  You will find your favorite version, as well as easily discover new versions that you maybe didn’t know existed.  Such access makes reading the Bible easy wherever you go, as long as you have an internet connection.

Bob gives a hearty “bark” for the easy access to all kinds of Bible versions with BibleGateway.

2. Navigation

Moving around on BibleGateway is effortless.  You can easily find the version of the Bible you’re looking for, the menus are clear, and moving from one version to another or one book of the Bible is no problem, even for the beginner to technology.

Bob has a clear “bark” for BibleGateway’s easy navigation.

3. Reading

Although you need to read the text of Scripture on the BibleGateway app in the vertical direction on an android smartphone, they provide 7 different font sizes to choose from.  The Scripture text is clear which makes no problem reading it.  What’s more, BibleGateway has an audio function so that you can listen to the Bible.  Bob really likes this function; he often falls asleep listening to Bible stories.

Bob gives a “bark” for the easy reading of the BibleGateway app.

4. Information

In addition to having multiple versions of the Bible, BibleGateway also provides several free resources on their home page including Bible commentaries, Bible dictionaries, and study Bibles.  If you want to get serious, you can also easily add electronic notes when reading the Bible.  If you want even more information, there’s the option to upgrade to a paid plan which provides plenty of resources to help you.

Bob happily gives BibleGateway a “bark” for providing easy information about the Bible.

5. Connection

A distinctive feature of electronic Bible applications is that you can take notes, consult commentaries, look at other versions of the Bible, and track a reading plan all in one small location.  There’s a wealth of connection with personal reading and study.  However, BibleGateway doesn’t have a feature to connect with other people using the app, maybe reading the same plan or struggling with the same questions as you.  If it’s important to you to share your Bible app experience with others, keep the BibleGateway app on your device but look for another app which gives you this capability.  Yet, as with most websites today, you can always take advantage of the BibleGateway Facebook page to connect with others using the app.

Bob has a “whoof” for BibleGateway’s connection (just so you know, a “whoof” is a half-bark).

It’s all about ease of use for good electronic Bible applications.  Based on “Bob’s 5 Bark Bible App Review” we give BibleGateway a solid:

4 ½ Barks out of 5
